3 Star and the Sun

3 Star and the Sun is a resort in Ban Tai on Koh Phangan, 200 m from Haad Baan Tai, with balconies and terraces in every room type. Ban Tai is about 4.2 km from Thong Sala town centre. Accommodation ranges from single rooms to a triple room, with a double room for couples and a single room with a shared bathroom. Three of the four room types have a private bathroom; all have air conditioning, a balcony and a terrace. Flat-screen TVs feature in the double and triple rooms, while tea and coffee makers are provided in both single categories and the triple.

Private bathrooms include showers and bidets, and rooms provide free toiletries. The double accommodates two people, each single category accommodates one, and the triple sleeps three.

Balconies, terraces and air conditioning are common to all four types. The Double Room, Single Room and Triple Room each have a private bathroom; the remaining single category has a shared bathroom. The private bathrooms have showers and bidets, as well as free toiletries and hairdryers. Flat-screen TVs appear in the Double and Triple rooms. Tea and coffee makers are included in both single categories and the Triple Room, while a desk is present in the shared-bathroom single and Triple Room.

The Night Market, 100 m away, is close enough for an evening visit on foot. Thong Sala, the island’s port town on the south-west coast, is the main ferry gateway and has a night market of its own.

Koh Phangan has no airport, so visitors arriving by air use Koh Samui Airport, travel to a pier and cross by boat to Thong Sala. Ferries from Bangrak and Maenam take about 20–30 minutes. Shared songthaews run from Thong Sala towards Ban Tai, and car hire is available at the resort. A paid shuttle service and free public parking are available on site. Ban Tai is connected by the island’s south-coast road; unlike Haad Yuan, Haad Thian and Bottle Beach, it is not a boat-only destination.

Nearby outings include Blackmoon Culture, 600 m away, and Wat Pho, 650 m away; Wat Pho is a pagoda. Haad Baan Kai beach lies 1.3 km from the resort, and Phaeng Noi waterfall is 4 km away. Haad Rin at the island’s southern tip hosts the monthly Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Nok. The Gulf coast is usually driest and calmest from February to April; October to December is the wettest period, with rougher seas on the east coast.
